Control deck that focuses around trading up with removal and taunt creatures.

Main strength of the deck is that it can turn around quickly by attacking back with taunts after trading profitably and healing.

Has only gotten me to rank 15 so I'm open to ideas.

On specific cards:

I tried Harrison Jones for a long time but too often he's just a 5/4 minion.

Velen's Chosen often gets me 2 for 1'd and sometimes doesn't have a good enough target.

I don't run the Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing package so it can be hard for me to defend a Deathlord, which is why I don't play it.

I run Velen's Chosen and Deathlord specifically for that combo. I'm not a high rank (12), but people can have a tough time doing anything about that 4/12 taunt. Plus, it makes your Holy Nova sweep for 3 which makes it a better Excavated Evil.

sevenless do you usually jam Deathlord on 3 or wait to immediately buff it with Velen's Chosen or perhaps a Power Word: Shield?

Pretty situational. In general I'd like to have it out early - if the lord and chosen is in my hand, I'll coin out the lord and buff it turn 3. That being said, if the board looks like I'd lose it in one turn, I'll hold back and try to delay until I can sweep somehow (nova, pyromancer, excavated). The most important thing when you buff is to try to ensure they won't get a 2-for-1. Took me a while to get some of that intuition.

I haven't played this particular style of control priest, but I have a few suggestions.

  • Because of your heavy taunt lineup, cards like Power Word: Shield and Velen's Chosen are a bit too good to pass up. I know it does suck when they kill your big taunt the turn after, but in most matchups the sustain it provides outweighs the potential loss.
  • I really don't like Shadowform in this deck, mainly because you have little to no cards besides Prophet Velen that play around it, and you'll be wanting to heal up your big taunts.
  • I'd suggest running Entomb over Mind Control, based purely on card strength.
  • You may even want take out Prophet Velen for a Justicar Trueheart, as it provides more consistent healing, and generally wants to trade with something rather then sitting behind a taunt.

I'd also suggest getting rid of Mind Vision and putting in 2 Museum Curators.
